Smyrna, Tenn. | December 2025
The Blackman Blaze turned Smyrna High School into their own inferno Tuesday night, rolling to two decisive dual meet victories over Cane Ridge and Smyrna, while celebrating a milestone moment that will be remembered for years to come.
In the opener, Blackman rolled past Cane Ridge 63–10, fueled by a string of early bonus-point wins. The Blaze — wrestling under the spotlight on Smyrna’s brand new mat — saw Andrew Workman, Carter Hughes, Douglas Barksdale, Landon McLean, Eli Goodin, Ethan Clark, Jerison Daniel, Kyngston Russell, and Mason Davison all score early falls or technical wins, asserting control throughout the lineup. Though Cane Ridge battled hard and picked up a few tight decisions, the Blaze pace was relentless and overwhelming.

Blackman kept the momentum going in the second dual, dominating a scrappy Smyrna team 69–6. Mass chaos of pins, techs, and major decisions marked the night, including falls by Workman, Barksdale, McLean, Goodin, Karson McCrary, Peyton Pickens, Jerison Daniel, and Pascoe, with only a couple of tough outings from Smyrna wrestlers slowing the Blaze charge.

Battles, Bravery, and Progress
Several matches stood out beyond the lopsided scores. Abraham Nadeau lost a close and hard-fought match against Cane Ridge, nearly swinging the momentum late. Trevor Steffy battled his opponent tough and prevailed in a gritty contest that went a full three (seemingly never ending) periods. And Ryker Gower showed tons of tenacity in both of his matches, wrestling hard and finding growth even in defeat.
Big Night at 100 Wins
A standout highlight was two Blackman wrestlers hitting the big 100-win milestone on the same night — a remarkable coincidence that brought the crowd to its feet. Drew Workman, a junior leader on the team, reached his century mark with authority, and Landon McLean, a senior stalwart, hit the same milestone moments later. Both were honored center-mat with banners and applause, celebrating sustained excellence and leadership over their careers.
Thoughts from Coach H
Head Coach Heathcott summed up the night with pride: “To have two guys reach 100 wins on the same night is incredibly special. I couldn’t be more proud of Drew and Landon — the work they’ve put in, the leadership they show, and the way they represent Blackman Wrestling every day.”

Next Up — Bradley Invitational
Blackman now turns its attention to the Bradley Invitational, set for Friday and Saturday in Cleveland, TN. The Bradley Invitational is one of the state’s toughest and most historic two-day individual tournaments, drawing elite competition from Tennessee, North Georgia, and Alabama. Previous years have seen Blackman place well as a team and produce top individual placers [Bradley Invitational fields large, competitive brackets year after year.
This long-standing holiday tournament is an early litmus test for postseason aspirations and another opportunity for Blaze wrestlers to measure themselves against some of the region’s best talent.
