Blaze Wrestling Splits at Home Meet

The Blackman Blaze wrestling team recently hosted an exciting home dual meet, facing off against Warren County and LaVergne High Schools. It was a night of intense competition, with the Blaze demonstrating resilience and determination despite challenging circumstances.

In the first dual meet, Blackman faced a formidable opponent in Warren County. Despite a valiant effort, the Blaze narrowly lost the match with a final score of 39-37. Warren County and Head Coach Josh Harris, known for his tough wrestlers, capitalized on their strengths. The match was closely contested with both teams showing impressive wrestling. Key wins for Blackman included Darren Boakye’s pin at 190 lbs and Afraim Ewida’s major decision victory at 120 lbs. However, Warren County managed to take the lead with decisive wins, including a final match victory for Hayden Watts at 175 lbs.

  • 138 lbs: Isaiah Thephavong (BHS) won by major decision over Huck Damon (WCHS) (MD 10-0)
  • 144 lbs: Landon McLean (BHS) won by forfeit
  • 150 lbs: Eli Goodin (BHS) triumphed over Isaiah Keyes (WCHS) (TF 16-1 4:00)
  • 165 lbs: Afraim Ewida (BHS) won by major decision over Zaydon Lovvorn (WCHS) (MD 9-0)

In the final dual meet of the night, Blackman rebounded with a dominant performance against LaVergne High School, securing a decisive 75-6 victory. The Blaze wrestlers demonstrated their strength and skill, winning multiple matches by fall and technical fall.

The Blackman Blaze wrestling team continues to showcase their talent and resilience as they progress through the season.
