Today, the Blackman High School wrestling team traveled to Bradley Central High School to compete in the long-standing Bradley Invitational. This prestigious tournament, a staple event held annually, gathers some of the best high school wrestlers from across the region. It’s always one of the most challenging events of the season.
Day 1 Highlights:
Despite several team members battling illness and injuries, the Blackman team had several standout performances:
- Germaia Ewida at 106 pounds demonstrated exceptional prowess, securing a minimum 6th place finish and securing a spot in the semi-finals tomorrow. Ewida’s victories included a major decision and a technical fall, proving his dominance on the mat.
- Andrew Workman at 120 pounds was another highlight, also making it to the semis and adding 12.0 points to the team score. Workman’s matches were marked by two technical falls, showing his technical skill and control over his opponents.
The team faced some significant hurdles with health issues:

- Blaise Meeks at 190 pounds, who was injured last week, attempted to compete today but coaches decided to medical forfeit him out of the competition as a precaution until he is able to wrestle at full capacity.
- Two key team members, Isaiah Thephavong and Doug Barksdale, were absent due to sickness, with the flu making its rounds in the community. Their absence was felt for sure.
- Also missing from the lineup, 126 pounder Isaac Ortiz, and 215 pounders Darren Boakye and Bryson Head.
Other notable performances included:
- Peyton Pickens at 138 pounds, won his first round match with a tech fall before falling to #1 seed Chase Creque from Siegel in the second match.
- Landon McLean at 144 pounds and Brayden Edmonson at 285 pounds both contributed points with their efforts in the consolation rounds, with McLean scoring 3.0 points and Edmonson adding 4.0 points.
- Afraim Ewida at 165 pounds won his first match by decision, showing promise despite a tough second round.

The team’s spirit was evident as several wrestlers, including Gavin Wright at 113 pounds and Eli Goodin at 150 pounds, faced setbacks but kept the team’s morale high with their resilience and sportsmanship. Looking forward to seeing some wins in the wrestle backs for these guys.
As we look forward to Day 2, the Blackman High School wrestling team, though not at full strength, is set to continue the march towards the podium, with hopes high for more medals and personal bests. Look for big matchups in the semis with Germaia Ewida and Drew Workman!
Keep supporting our Blaze wrestlers as they represent our school with pride and determination, fighting through adversity both on and off the mat! Go Blaze!
