Blackman Wrestling Team Shines at MTWOA Grand Championship

Blackman Wrestling – 4th at the MTWOA Grand Championships

Gladeville, TN – The Blackman High School wrestling team traveled to Wilson Central High School to compete in the Middle Tennessee Wrestling Officials Association (MTWOA) Freshman, JV, and Girls Grand Championship. It was a day full of exciting matches and valuable learning experiences for our young wrestlers, culminating in a 4th place finish in the team race.

Freshman Highlights:

  • Aiden Blocker (126) had a strong start with a bye in the first round and a swift victory by fall in the quarterfinals against Matthew Eberle from Montgomery Central High School. However, his journey was cut short in the semifinal and consolation semifinal rounds by Maddox McCullough and Youssef Mdarhri respectively. Blocker contributed 6.0 points to the team.
  • Nick Rich (126) showed promise by winning his first match against Carson VanMeter from Marshall Co. High School. Despite not advancing further, Rich added 4.0 points to Blackman’s tally.
  • Peyton Pickens (138) had an outstanding performance, securing 3rd place after a series of impressive wins by fall and decision. His determination was evident as he scored 20.0 points for the team.
  • Eli Goodin (150) was unstoppable, clinching the 1st place with technical falls and a major decision, amassing 27.5 points for Blackman.
  • Trevor Steffy (157) not only took home the gold but also was honored with the Outstanding Wrestler award for upperweights. His performance was phenomenal, dominating his matches with technical falls and falls, adding a significant 29.0 points to the team score.
  • Damarcus Vanzant (165) showed great technique and strength, securing 1st place with a mix of technical falls, a major decision, and a fall, contributing 26.5 points.
  • Bryson Head (215) faced tough competition but managed to gain some experience, although he did not place.
  • Kyngston Russell (285) was a force to be reckoned with, taking home 2nd place after a series of falls, only losing in a close decision in the 1st place match. He added 24.0 points to the team score.

JV Boys Performance:

  • Spencer Hebel (128-131) swept his competition, securing 1st place with three falls.
  • Connor Rose (128-134) showed resilience, finishing in 2nd place after a mix of wins and a close loss.
  • Abraham Nadeau (144-155) bounced back from an early defeat to clinch 1st place with a technical fall and a fall.

Coach Heathcott’s Thoughts

Reflecting on the day, Coach Heathcott stated, “Proud of all our young guys today! They are taking it from the practice room and starting to put it all together when it matters. Looking forward to all that comes with this Freshman class. Shout out to Trevor Steffy for securing OW!

The day was filled with learning opportunities and showcased the team’s depth and potential. Every wrestler who stepped onto the mat contributed to the team’s spirit and performance. We are proud of all the athletes who represented Blackman High School with such vigor and sportsmanship. We look forward to continuing this momentum in future competitions.
