Murfreesboro, TN – The Blackman Blaze Wrestling Team hosted a memorable tri-meet on Thursday night, welcoming Cane Ridge High School and cross-town rival Oakland High School. The evening was made even more special as the team celebrated Senior Night, honoring senior wrestlers and their families for their dedication and contributions to the program. The gym was filled with energy and emotion as fans packed the stands to cheer on the Blaze.

Senior Night Recognition

Before the matches began, Blackman took a moment to celebrate its seniors, who were recognized on the mat alongside their parents. These seniors have been an integral part of the team’s success and have set a high standard for the underclassmen to follow. Their leadership and hard work have left a lasting legacy. Congrats to Shai Ring, Bailyn Lowe, Phoebe Shubert (Team Manager), Afraim Ewida, Blaise Meeks, Issac Ortiz, Isaiah Thephavong, and Logan Davison (Team Videographer).

Match 1: Blackman vs. Cane Ridge

The Blaze opened the evening with a dominant 63-9 victory over Cane Ridge. Blackman wrestlers showed their skill and determination across every weight class. Key performances included:

  • Landon Franklin (215) pinning LaQuinten Campbell in a strong showing.
  • Landon McLean (144) earning a technical fall (17-2) in 4:00.
  • Isaiah Thephavong (138) pinning his opponent in impressive fashion.
  • Blaise Meeks (190) securing a fall in just 1:36.

Cane Ridge managed to secure wins at 157 and 175, but Blackman’s depth and consistency proved insurmountable.

Match 2: Blackman vs. Oakland

The highlight of the night came in the showdown with Oakland. The Blaze and Patriots traded victories in a closely contested match, but Blackman emerged victorious with a 39-29 win.

Notable performances included:

  • Isaiah Thephavong (138) earning his second fall of the night at 2:51.
  • Landon McLean (144) delivering another fall in 2:45.
  • Trevor Steffy (157) earning a hard fought 6-0 decision.
  • Blaise Meeks (190) capping his stellar night with a fall in 1:19.
  • Landon Franklin (215) with his second win of the night by major decision.

Oakland wrestlers, led by Taurus Allen (285) and Dylan Frazier (126), pushed Blackman to the limit. Tyler Lowe (165) and Xavier Neilly (175) also delivered strong performances for the Patriots, but the Blaze held firm in the decisive moments.

Senior Night added an emotional touch to an already exciting evening. The gym was alive with cheers as fans celebrated both the seniors’ contributions and the team’s success.
