Wrestlers, Parents and Fans…………It’s almost time!!
Wrestling season is right around the corner and Coach Bray and the Blaze have been busy getting prepared. Practice has been in full swing for a few weeks now and little by little, the pieces of the puzzle are starting to reveal what looks to be another very successful season in the making.
Blackman will be led this year by senior state champion, Landon Fowler. Last weekend, Fowler traveled to Greesboro, NC to compete in the Super32. The Super32 is one of the most prestigious and difficult tournaments in the entire country. Out of 33 participating wrestlers who attend high school in Tennessee, Fowler was the only one to make it past the first day of the tournament. He ended up 4-2 at the event.
In addition to Fowler, Junior standout Brooks Sacharczyk and Freshman phenom Justin Bradford will both make a huge impact on the Blaze this season. Both wrestlers traveled to DesMoines, Iowa for the Pre-Season Nationals last weekend. Sacharczyk was impressive in his debut. He steamrolled his first three opponents and barely lost the semi-final match in double overtime. He went on to take 4th place in a tough bracket. Bradford put together a string of impressive wins in a loaded bracket of his own but just missed the podium going 5-2 on the tournament. Bradford will make some noise this year.
Although there are several impact players, a few other guys who will make a big splash this season will be Senior Jalen Brown, Senior Spencer Layne, and Junior Bowdy Boyce. These Blaze football players are going to be like animals out of the cage once football season is over.
Rankings dont mean a whole lot but they sure are a lot of fun. With that said, Pin-Tn just released their pre-season rankings and as a team, the Blaze are ranked 7th in the state. We have several guys who were ranked as well at their weights. Justin Bradford (4th), Jalen Brown (3rd), Landon Fowler (1st), Brooks Sacharczyk (3rd) & Bowdy Boyce (5th). Each of these guys should have legitimate shots at state medals this season. It’s going to be a great year!!
Blackman will be hosting its annual pre-season tournament on the 17th of November at Blackman High School. Be sure to plan on being there and support the Blaze! Can’t make it to pre-season? Check our out SCHEDULE.
