High school wrestling is back!!!!!
If you are happy that wrestling season has finally arrived, you are not alone!!! The most intense wrestling fans have been waiting for what feels like an eternity to get back to talking about weight changes, lineups, rankings and tournaments. It is truly a special time of year!!!
For the first time this season, Blackman wrestlers got a taste of live competition at the Tullahoma Pre-Season tournament held this past Saturday at Tullahoma High School. Blackman took about 18 competitors and as always, this tournament is a great opportunity for them to get a few good matches in before the regular season begins.
For those who are experienced wrestlers, knocking off the rust is vital at this point. As for the new guys, getting their first matches in high school wrestling will open their eyes and provide a ton of motivation to get better.
Blackman was led this weekend by Junior Landon Fowler who was undefeated on the day. Other undefeated wrestlers were, Blake Barrett, Brooks Sacharczyk, Dylan Stebbins, Jeremiah Savage, and Liam Elam. All of those guys looked solid! In addition, there were also signs of future greatness in a few of our younger guys as well. Sophomore Austin Marlatt looked confident as he won a close 1-0 decision over Taylor from Oakland. Junior Jacob Ford earned the first win of his career over Cannon from Chattanooga Central. And sophomore Peyton Adams was determined and scrappy and ended the day with a positive record.
Blackman will be in action at home this weekend in the Blackman Early Bird Preseason Tournament. Our team has looked good coming out of the gate and starting this week, our football players will slowly but surely be getting themselves back into wrestling shape. Looking forward to getting everybody on the mat!
It’s going to be another great season of Blackman Wrestling!! Come out this Saturday and see some great wrestling and support the Blaze!!
