It’s been another busy week for the Blaze. On Tuesday, Blackman blanked Rockvale in a dual at Warren County and soundly defeated the Pioneers as well. On Thursday, Blackman went into enemy territory with the district title on the line and defeated a very strong and passionate Patriots team from Oakland. If you missed the dual, you really missed a dandy. The Patriots are probably the most under-rated team in the state. Trust us when we say, you better prepare for them.
Blackman headed out Friday and travelled to Knoxville for the Chris Vandergriff Invitational at Halls High School. With the likes of DII Powerhouse Christian Brothers, and A-AA Champs Pigeon Forge, this is always a tough tournament.
Blackman showed up in business mode on Saturday however. An all-day battle for team points with Christian Brothers ended with the Blaze on top 196 to 154. A very scrappy and well coached Page from Middle Tennessee rounded out the top three with 149 points.
Blackman has five champions in Grant Myers, Justin Bradford, Anthony Gomez, Brooks Sacharczyk, and Bowdy Boyce.
Once again, Bradford was totally dominate. In his championship match, Bradford dismantled Koss from Bartlett with a 20-5 tech fall. Bradford went on to receive the Outstanding Wrestler Award for the tournament which was well deserved.
Other medalists for Blackman were:
- Alex Rose – 3rd
- Mason Sells – 3rd
- Adam Tibitoski 4th
- Justin Brown 5th
- Jaylan Hughes 6th
Blackman is looking forward to the Region 5 Dual Championship where another trip to the TSSAA State Duals is on the line.
Go Blaze.
