Blackman took the whole team to Cleveland, TN for the annual “Al Miller Cleveland Duals” this weekend. The 8th ranked Blaze took 5th place out of sixteen teams winning the Silver pool over 12th ranked Rossview.
Historically, the Cleveland Duals have been one of the toughest dual tournaments in the in the state and this year, it was obvious that not much had changed. Six of the top twelve teams in Tennessee showed up in Cleveland looking to sharpen their iron and none were disappointed.
Blackman was placed in a pool with historically tough Soddy Daisy and Division II powerhouse Father Ryan. Also in the pool was a tough squad from Carrollton, GA. Blackman also fielded a team of junior varsity wrestlers with a few other kids from different teams. (Great experience for those guys!)
Blackman started off the day with wins in the pool over Carrollton and Soddy Daisy. Blackman fell to the Irish in the last dual of pool play.
In the silver placement pool, Blackman defeated #11 Arlington to set up a battle for 5th place overall with #12 Rossview. (Rossview beat #10 Centennial in their side of the silver bracket.)
The dual with Rossview was exciting but the Blaze got out to an early lead and never relinquished.
Final Results from the Cleveland Duals were as follows:
Match 1 – Blackman 65 – Carrollton 15
Match 2 – Blackman 60 – Soddy Daisy 21
Match 3 – Blackman 33 – Father Ryan 45
Match 4 – Blackman 39 – Arlington 32
Match 5 – Blackman 46 – Rossview 30
Blackman was scheduled to be at Wilson Central this week to take on the #4 Wildcats and #10 Centennial but the matches have been cancelled due to Blackman’s exams.
The Blaze will travel to Cleveland once again next weekend for the Bradley Invitational. That is an individual tournament and will provide our wrestlers with their toughest tests yet. If you can get to Cleveland, you will see some great competition!!
