The Blaze returned to action Tuesday night at Blackman for the first dual meets of 2016. After a long Christmas break, there were some questions about whether or not everyone would be on weight and ready to go. Although SOME people were cutting it verrrryyyy close, everyone made weight and looked fired up for battle.
Blackman opened the night with a win over Clarksville Northeast. The Eagles brought a tough group of guys to Blackman and they certainly passed the look test. The dual started off at 182 pounds. Sophomore Hunter Winters(182) and Senior Andre Bravo(195) started things off with first period pins! Not to be outdone, Sam Luker(220) and Jamil Hughes(285) continues the domination and pinned their guys as well! The Eagles gave up three forfeits in the lightweights and it quickly became apparent that Blackman would run away with this one. Jalen Brown(132), Elijah Cox(138), Landon Fowler(145), Ryan Heath(152), Matthew Sells(160), and Vincent Cross(170) all had wins as well. Final score Blaze 75 – Eagles 5.
Blackman got a quick rest before the dual with Battle Ground Academy kicked off. Things didn’t start so well as Dylan Heath(285) and Liam Elam(106) were pinned to start things off. Facing a 12 point deficit right out of the gate is no bueno. Thankfully, Tre’von Thomas(120) got us back on track with a first period pin and from there (with the help of a few forfeits from BGA) Blackman cruised to a 49-12 victory. Tre’von Thomas(120), Jalen Brown(132), Cole Tillman(160), Matthew Sells(170), and Hunter Winters(182) all had pins in the Blaze victory.
